Who Are We...
The William F. Halsey
Battalion and the Training Ship Gregory Boyington is a unit based around the
structure of a Navy Seabee Battalion and a Naval Air Wing. This is a unit
of the USNSCC (United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps) and the USNLCC (United
States Naval League
Cadet Corps).
In our unit, Cadets are instructed in Naval Construction and Naval Aircraft
principles. Additionally, we facilitate instruction in other areas that the
Cadet's express interest in.
The Sea Cadets offer a challenging and fun program for youths between the ages
of 11 and 18. The Sea Cadets strive to mirror Navy Core Values as well as
instill a sense of duty, patriotism and honor amongst it's ranks.
"...through organization and cooperation with the Department of the Navy, to encourage and aid American youth to develop, train them in seagoing skills, and to teach them patriotism, courage, self-reliance and kindred virtues."
- NSCC Charter - 36 USC 1541
Since 1958 the Naval Sea Cadet Corps has been committed to providing American youth with a drug and alcohol free environment to foster their leadership abilities, broaden their horizons through hands-on training and guide them to becoming mature young adults.
Sea Cadet organizations exist in most of the maritime nations of the world. Recognizing the value of these organizations in educating youth in maritime matters, the Department of the Navy requested the Navy League of the United States to establish a similar program for American youth. The Navy League agreed to do so and formally established the Naval Sea Cadet Corps (NSCC) and Navy League Cadet Corps (NLCC) in 1958. Recognizing the importance and benefits of the NSCC, Congress on September 10, 1962 federally incorporated the Naval Sea Cadet Corps under Public Law 87-655 (36 USC 1541).
Today, the NSCC has formed partnerships with organizations such as the Foundation for Teaching Economics and the Flying Midshipman Association to offer cadets broader opportunities in areas of leadership and aviation. The NSCC also took an active part in the creation of the International Sea Cadet Association (ISCA). The ISCA is an association of Sea Cadet Corps' from around the world, whose main objective is to facilitate exchanges of cadets between member countries.
We are located in North Texas and serve areas covering Plano, Frisco, Allen, Decatur, Denton, and McKinney just to name a few. We drill out of the Texas National Guard Armory located in Decatur Texas.
While serving in our unit, we expect our Cadets to carry themselves in an upstanding manner in all facets of their lives. This includes the proper attitude both in and outside of drill weekends.
Our unit typically drills on the third weekend of every month at the Army National Guard Armory in Denton, Texas. Our unit normally meets at the Armory on Friday evening and are released on Sunday afternoon. The Cadets are usually tired, but satisfied at the completion of a drill. We do our PT (Physical Training), classroom instruction, close order drill, projects and all other functions at the armory. Meals are provided during their drill weekend. There are times however, where we complete a drill weekend elsewhere. These are rare, but they do happen. Additionally, there will be times where there may be more than one function in a month.
We expect our Cadets to put forth the effort necessary to demonstrate they want to be a part of something special. The Halsey Battalion prides itself on its reputation. As a member of our unit, you must make the commitment on your part to demonstrate that you truly want to achieve great goals and are looking for something more than the "usual". In return for your commitment, you will be presented with options you never dreamed available. Furthermore, you will learn about yourself and your capabilities as a person and be instructed in the ways of the military.
We are not a recruiting platform for the United States Navy, nor any other branch of service. However, if that is your intention, then you will be well prepared for your journey if that's the course you elect to choose. You will be instructed by a group of Officers and Volunteers that have combined over 50+ years of military service amongst themselves.
While in the Sea Cadets, you will complete actual military courses, and be exposed and have an opportunity to perform the functions of current serving military personnel today. The experiences will be countless.
