Explanation of Advancement and Coursework
This is for all Sea  Cadets who do not know how Advancement and Coursework is to be completed. I get many questions on this, so I
will attempt to explain here. If you've been in the Cadets less than 6 months, you should read this.

SEA CADETS:

To advance in rank, you must have 3 segments. TIG (Time in Grade), TWT (Two Week Training) and Coursework/Test of some form.

You begin at E-1. To get to E-2, you must do the following:

1. Complete your BMR Correspondence Course. (See Below for that info.)  You have 90 days from enrollment to do this or you WILL be removed from the Battalion This book is on the Training CD. (If you did not get a Training CD, call ENS Fevola immediately to arrange for one to be delivered to you or see below). How you complete this course is by going on the disk and completing the ASSIGNMENTS 1-15, as you read along (NOT THE END OF CHAPTER QUESTIONS). This is in essence an open book test. There are 15 assignments, and these assignments begin on page 651 of the manual. Print off the 15 assignments and read and answer as you go circling the answers. Each assignment tells you what Chapters your covering. When finished with  the assignments, you will then print off the Answer Sheet on the CD making 15 copies. (The answer sheet is a separate ICON on the training cd) Fill out your name and SS# (on EACH ONE) and label them individually 1-15. After you have labeled each Answer Sheet, bubble them in from your assignment booklet. At the next drill, turn in the Answer sheets only to ENS Fevola. (Or you may fax or email them to me if you prefer to have it graded ASAP).

ANY QUESTIONS ON THE ABOVE, CALL ENS Fevola!

2. Time in Grade. You must be in each rank a certain time before advancement. For E-2, you must be in the Sea Cadets for 3 months.

3. For E-2, you must have completed the Boot Camp of two weeks. (TWT)

You can attain E-2(T) (That's Temporary) by completing your BMR's however. That means you would be automatically promoted to E-2 as soon as you complete Boot Camp.

After Boot Camp, you can then begin to choose schools the Navy Sea Cadet's offers of just about anything imaginable for a two week period to use as your TWT's going forward. The lists become available early in the year, and I will point them out when they arrive.

For E-3 and above, consult the Advancement Guide on the Navy Sea Cadet Resources page at www.resources.seacadets.org It will give you all the information you need. Remember, you will need all 3 elements for EACH rank advancement. That's why it's important to attend at least one TWT per year.
