JULY 2008 DRILL ACTION MESSAGE

All Hands,

There will be no official JULY drill due to over 3/4 of the unit being on Advanced Trainings. There may be a fundraiser however, and you should keep an eye out on email to see if one is being planned for the remainder of the unit. That is all.

APRIL 2008 DRILL ACTION MESSAGE

All Hands,

In the May drill we will be presenting colors at the Frisco Roughriders Game. There are only a limited number of tickets available. You will need to send an email to ENS Fevola if you plan on attending and if you plan on bringing any additional family or friends. The cost will be $18.00 in addition to drill fees. You must respond via email if you plan to participate at this evolution. The drill in May is 16-18. That is all.

AUGUST 2007 DRILL ACTION MESSAGE

All Hands,

This drill will be conducted on the USS Batfish in Muskogee, Oklahoma. The Batfish is a WWII submarine and we will be conducting underway drills as well as assisting with renovation. There is a specific Seabag list that has been put out on the webgroup. If you have not received that list, contact a Petty Officer ASAP. Make sure you bring only what is on that Seabag list. You will be required to be at the armory on Friday evening to attend this evolution as we are departing very early on Saturday. If you have any questions, call your Petty Officer, parents can call ENS Fevola with any issues.

That is all.

JUNE 2007 DRILL ACTION MESSAGE

All Hands,

This drill we will be conducting Swim Qualifications as well as participating in a Flag Retirement Ceremony. Firstly, be sure to read the entire POD as you will need to bring your swimsuit (one piece for females) and a towel as well as water shoes or flip flops. Secondly, you will also be required to bring your dress uniform for the flag retirement ceremony. Those of you who have not been issued your dress whites as of yet due to non-completion of the BMR, make sure your CUU uniform is in its very best condition. You will be assisting on the sidelines. Thirdly, be sure to note to your parents that you will be picked up from the Elks lodge in Denton, and not the Armory. The address will be posted on the POD and you will see that it is not very far from the armory.

We will be attempting to qualify everyone on the 3rd Class Navy Swim Test this drill. Also, be sure to bring your supply needs so INST Holtz can fill them. Use the new form he put out on the Yahoo Webgroups for replacement or lost items. If you do not have this form, it is strongly advised you contact your Petty Officer.

That is all.

ENS Fevola, NSCC

MAY 2007 MEMORIAL DAY ACTION MESSAGE

Memorial Day parade information has been posted on the Yahoo! Webgroups. If you do not have access to this information, you need to call ENS Fevola, NSCC as soon as possible for information. We need all hands for this evolution.

That is all.

MAY 2007 DRILL ACTION MESSAGE

All Hands,

Firstly, this drill is being held at the Decatur Armory, NOT DENTON. Directions to Decatur armory from all points East:

Take 380 West until you hit Decatur. You will see a Shell station on your left at the edge of town. Cross over the overpass, half way across is an exit ramp, take that ramp around and down to a T. At the T make a LEFT. Go approximately 1/4 of a mile and on the right hand side will be the armory. There is a sign for both the armory and the airport from 380, be careful to not take the exit right next to that sign, it can be confusing.

Secondly, bring your dress uniform in preparation for the Memorial Day evolution on 28 May. We will be checking and filling all supply issues then.

Thirdly, we have a fundraiser/car wash/recruiting event this drill. 1/2 of the unit will be participating in this while the other half does supply and PRT. Try to bring old towels to pitch in to our supply as well as sponges. Any extra you can bring will be appreciated. Since this is the case, be sure your CUU's look sharp.

We will be doing alot of ADMIN this drill. Be prepared.

That is all.

ENS Fevola, NSCC

All Hands,

If coming down from Denton and surrounding area (follow the magenta line) go South on 35E. Get off at the Swisher road exit, but stay on the service road and follow it across Swisher. Begin looking for Tuberville road on the right as it comes up fast and is not marked so well. Make a right on Tuberville. After a few hundred feet, make a left on Point Vista road. Follow this a few hundred yards, and then make a right on Hickory Creek road. You will see the guard shack in the middle of the road and a small parking area behind and to the left of the shack. We are meeting in this parking area.

If coming up from Lewisville, Coppell or the Dallas area (follow the green line) go North on 35E. Get off on any of the exits immediately after crossing the Lake Lewisville bridge, but stay on the service road.  Make a right turn on W. Hundley Drive and then your first left onto N. Denton Drive. Follow N. Denton Drive to the left and over the highway, and then it will curve around to the right and onto the South bound service road of the 35E. APRIL 2007 DRILL ACTION MESSAGE

Greetings Shipmates,

This post serves to give you all the early "heads up" that this months drill will be conducted at the primitive camp sites on the Corps of Engineers property on the shores of Lake Lewisville. As communicated to you in the past, we have been asked by these folks to assist them in many, many "Sea Bee" type projects that are just perfect for us. As we do this work over a drill weekend, we will be camping out like we did for SERE training. The camp sites we will be based at have better accommodations and include restrooms and potable water (drinking water). Our drill weekend is April 20, 21 and 22 and there will be many posts between now and then to give you the full details on what we will be doing. Make sure you mark the dates down and get ready for a lot of fun.

mind your helm,

LTJG Martin Gusky, NSCC

FEBRUARY 2007 DRILL ACTION MESSAGE

This is an important drill for our unit. We have our annual inspection and we get graded on how many cadets are present, how much coursework and promotions we've completed, our appearance, the condition of our records, etc. We need ALL hands to be on deck for this drill in their very best dress blue uniform if they are a Sea Cadet, or their salt n peppers if they are a League Cadet. If you are missing items, we will try to fill them early on Saturday. If not, bring your VERY BEST CUU uniform. I mean it better be squared away. Boots should be polished so I can see my face in them in the dark. Haircuts for males need to be sharp and short. Females, be sure to bring the requisite gear to get your hair squared away.

Also, we are preparing for March boot camp. We will need to have the orders and monies for this boot camp turned into me by this upcoming drill. There was a post sent out with specific instructions that need to be followed. If you have any questions about boot camp, email or phone ENS Fevola, NSCC directly.

If you are missing UNIFORM items, you will need to get with SUPPO (Supply Officer) this drill to get them squared away. The POD will have time slated for this early, so be prepared. Our POD should be posted within the week.

Again, I can't stress enough that we need all hands on deck for this drill. Do your level best to be there. Our attendance is beginning to slack a little. I will not be so quick to issue out approved or excused absences. While we realize there are other obligations, you also made a very serious obligation to the Sea Cadet Corps. You must uphold that obligation. Some of you have been missing some extra time that is not being overlooked.

As always, call or email with questions.

That is all.

ENS Fevola, NSCC

DECEMBER 2006 DRILL ACTION MESSAGE

This will be an abbreviated liberty drill. We will have Battalion festivities on Saturday evening where entertainment (Karaoke, games, etc will be provided for Officers and Cadets). Bring your issued uniform items to drill for a seabag inspection. We will be doing some general housekeeping (Admin/Supply) etc for this drill. Cadets, we will be asking for some input for next year's training plan, so be prepared.

Also, on 2 December we will be participating in the Merry Main Street activity with the VFW. See LTJG Gusky's post on the unit yahoo webgroup. If you are NOT a member of the unit Yahoo webgroup, send ENS Fevola an email identifying yourself to gitom7@yahoo.com to be sent back an invitation. If you are not on the Yahoo webgroup, you are missing quite a bit of information.

That is all.

ENS Fevola, NSCC

NOVEMBER 2006 DRILL ACTION MESSAGE

We will be conducting a weapons shoot this drill. You must fill out a weapons form and have your parents sign this form to participate. If you do not, you do not shoot. You must also bring a copy of your most recent report card. If you do not, you do not shoot. Click HERE to get a copy of the authorization form. Visit back to view the POD within the next week.

That is all.

ENS Fevola, NSCC

OCTOBER 2006 DRILL ACTION MESSAGE

We will be conducting SERE training this month. This drill is completely optional. Please view the POD for very detailed instructions. Due to the nature of this drill, if you have any questions whatsoever, please contact either ENS Fevola, ENS Gusky or LTJG Hudson immediately. Please confirm with your Petty Officer or post on the Yahoo webgroup if plan on attending. It is important for us to have a good headcount. We are having a unit from Oklahoma attend as well, so we would like to see a good showing even though it is an optional drill month.

That is all.

ENS Fevola, NSCC

JULY 2006 DRILL ACTION MESSAGE

All Hands,

Please read this message in full. We have two evolutions for July that require our attention.

The first one is on July 2. This is a COLOR GUARD event only and will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church in Denton. I need 4
who are qualified in Color Guard to email me directly (do not post here) if you can attend this event. The address for the event is 117
Hercules, Denton, Texas, 76207. You will need to be present and report to LCDR Nelson at 1015 hours. You will be released sometime
prior to 1130. This is a short evolution whereby we are posting colors.

The 2nd event is on July 4 and is a parade. The parade is being held at Robson Ranch Community. This is a Battalion evolution, with
restrictions. Firstly, we will also need Color Guard at this event. Secondly, the uniform of the day is DRESS WHITES for Sea Cadets,
Salt/Peppers for League Cadets. NO EXCEPTIONS. If you have not been issued your Dress Whites as of yet due to not completing BMR's or
being new, unfortunately you may not march with the unit. Since it is July 4, we must be in our Dress Uniforms. You may however show up
to support us if you choose to do so.

I also need an email from you to me directly (again, do not post here) if you can attend this event. The event is located on Robson
Ranch Community. The community is off 35W (not 35E) and is Exit 79. Directions are as follows: Exit 79 off 35W. Turn West off Exit ramp.
Proceed approximately 1.5 miles west to the main gate for Robson. Turn right into main gate. It is approx 6/10ths of a mile and you
will make a left turn. Go 1 block, make a right turn into clubhouse parking lot. (Follow signs for Clubhouse).

We will need to meet in that parking lot no later than 0730. We must be on site for 0800. The parade route is 1.1 miles long.

We need as many of the Battalion to attend with Dress Uniforms as possible. Be sure to wear all of your ribbons and look especially
sharp. Please call me with any questions whatsoever.

That is all.

MAY 2006 DRILL ACTION MESSAGE

This drill (May 19 - 21) we will be performing our Advanced Compass Course. This compass course was designed by ENS Fevola to be both physically and mentally demanding. The cadets participating in this course will enjoy this evolution immensely. However, be aware that you will need to come to drill prepared for a challenge. This is a radical Team Building Exercise that will test all cadets.

Also, please visit the Sea Cadet Resources Website (Under our links page) and fill out an NSCADM 10 form as best as you can and bring it to drill. We will be trying to capture all cadets past due ribbons owed (if any) and will be working ADMIN this drill heavily.

Lastly, if you are a Sea or a League Cadet and attending Boot Camp (Orientation for Leaguers) please have your 001's and 003's available with your checks. If you have questions, please contact ENS Fevola.

THERE WILL BE A PARENTS MEETING AT 1930 ON FRIDAY EVENING AT THE ARMORY. WE WILL BE DISCUSSING IMPORTANT UNIT INFORMATION.

ENS Fevola, NSCC

DECEMBER 30th, 2005  FUNERAL ACTION MESSAGE:

All Hands,

It is my unfortunate duty to inform everyone that a fellow shipmate, LTJG George Laughlin, the Executive Officer of our sister command in Tyler, Texas unexpectedly lost his life this morning in an unfortunate set of circumstances. He is survived by his two children and wife.

Other than what's posted above, I have no further details to share. Let us keep in mind that he was a shipmate, and a fellow Officer of the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps.

The funeral is set for 10:00 A.M. this Friday, December 30th near Tyler, Texas.

LCDR Nelson was asked by the Commanding Officer of our sister command to help provide a Color/Honor Guard for the funeral due to our sister command's lack of personnel.

Furthermore, due to a lack of Dress Blue Uniforms issued in both commands, the Uniform of the Day will be CUU's for all Cadets who wish to participate or attend. I will be unable to attend the service due to work commitments. LCDR Nelson will be the Officer In Charge for the Funeral Service.

If you are interested in attending as part of the Color/Honor Guard, please contact LCDR Nelson on his cell phone at 469-744-1500. Or, you may also contact ENS Fevola at 972-712-3643. LCDR Nelson has mentioned setting up a carpool and a meeting place for those who can attend and will coordinate individually. It would be better to coordinate with the CO since he will be the one attending, however I will coordinate with him as well if you cannot reach him on his cell.

If you do attend, you will spend whatever time is necessary to ensure your CUU's are perfect. This includes your grooming and boots as well. This is extremely important and we will not dishonor our shipmate by settling for anything less.

Cadet Earls, please contact either the CO or myself immediately upon receiving this message.

Any parent who may able to assist in driving depending on the turnout would also be appreciated.

That is all.

ENS Fevola, NSCC

SEPTEMBER 2005 DRILL ACTION MESSAGE:

AUGUST 2005 DRILL ACTION MESSAGE:

ADULT INFORMATION FORM

Parents / Guardians,

Your child's command has plans to make available to its cadets, the opportunity to receive their Marksmanship Ribbons. Due to the method required for qualification of this ribbon it is very important that not only our cadets be safe during this evolution but the adults be advised of how the evolution will be conducted.

Your child has already begun weapons safety 101 & 102; regardless of the participation we feel all cadets must understand weapon safety. This sets a respect and knowledge of proper procedures when handling or even being around a weapon. Under no circumstances during these classes was any cadet exposed to any real weapons or munitions. Our classes are conducted with either non-functional replicas or air powered replicas for instructional purposes. A final safety class will be conducted in the morning of the Marksmanship evolution to
those cadets with final approval to perform the evolution. We encourage any adult that wishes to attend this safety class to come. Marksmanship is a once a year qualification evolution, with renewal of the permission release each time. In most cases it needs to be performed only once by a cadet, for their entire enrollment with the Sea Cadets. In other words this ribbon doesn't expire.

What will my child do?
Qualification for Marksmanship requires your child to perform or
demonstrate the following.
1. Demonstrate proper weapon protocols
2. Fire a weapon at a target in a controlled environment
3. Meet qualifying scores as per results of the target
4. Performances will be assessed from both pistol and rifle
weapon scores

Environment & Safety Operations –
The following is a list of either safety or environmental conditions
that will be enforced during this evolution.
1. Completion of required safety classes
2. Demonstration of weapon protocols with replica
3. Completion of safety procedures by certified Range Master
4. Controlled group sizes
5. A Range Master with each cadet during qualification (one-on-
one supervision and instruction)
6. All Range Masters are either active or retire Police
Officers, Federal Officers, qualified Navy Marksman's, or
certified Range Masters by NRA standards
7. Observation by non-qualifying cadets from a safe and secure
distance
8. Weapon will be empty at all times with the exception of
performance to qualify
9. Ammunition will be presented to the cadet when all safety
conditions are present and controlled
10. Failure by a cadet to conduct him or herself in the proper
manner will result in immediate removal from the evolution

If you have any questions on the purpose or the procedures of this evolution that may not have been stated in this Information Form please call me at any time. As I informed most of the parents in this command about my views on safety and proper conduct in respects to this evolution I still stand by that. For the parents I have not informed about my views of procedure let me state them again. Under no circumstances will a cadet participate in this or any evolution of questionable safety if one of the following conditions is
presented.

1. Failure to pass required courses
2. Doesn't demonstrate 100% attention when participating in
required courses
3. Cadet gets a failing assessment by an instructor during pre-
evolution meetings
4. Fails to conduct themselves in the expected manner
5. Proper safety conditions can not be set or maintained

Due to the nature of this evolution and in respects to various view-points of the handling or the usage of weapons. Your view-points or beliefs are fully respected, if for any reason you feel your child shouldn't participate in this evolution please let me know or simply refrain from submitting a permission slip to the command. All cadets that have not submitted a permission slip by the evolution date will be omitted from the evolution. We are attempting to conduct this event in the month of October, if for any reason we reschedule you
will be notified. Again if you have any questions please let me know.

Ensign, David Yarbrough
Operations Officer
